Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is significantly reshaping the landscape of international relations, influencing everything from global politics to security dynamics and diplomatic practices in a multifaceted way.

The global AI race, led by major powers such as the United States, China and Russia, underscores the strategic importance of AI in asserting national prestige and power and potentially redefining power hierarchies in the international system. Both academics and policymakers note that AI increases its potential to accelerate and exacerbate trends in international politics rather than initiating completely unpredictable transformations. The role of this technology as an influential force is more evident in its applications in military, defense, trade and diplomacy, and it can affect the global balance of power and the nature of war.

International organizations, in their pivotal role, are not just shaping AI norms and governance, but also adapting to the rapid development of artificial intelligence. This evolution is not just about managing the impacts of AI technologies, but also about updating traditional diplomatic practices. These changes raise profound questions about the future of international politics and relations in a world increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence.
