Abstract

Globalization has experienced various changes and transformations in many areas in the 1980s, with the wide and strong historical background it had. Syndicalism has been one of the most significant areas that have been affected by the transformations of globalization. Along with World War II, syndicalism experienced its “golden age” with the lasting impact of Keynesian economics that took place between 1945 to the end of the 1970s. Syndicalist activities started to diminish with the 1973 Oil Crisis and the dominant Neoliberalism which was caused by the winds of globalization by the 1980s. During the post-1980 period, decreasing collective bargaining power and member scarcity of syndicates led them to focus on continuing their activities with a consensual profile rather than a confrontational profile. This recession of syndicalism has shown its impact on workplace relationships by resulting in a “syndicate-free industry” that has found a space for itself in the business life with new labor identities that have been brought by the globalization.
