Abstract


THE EXAMİNATİON OF HOPELESSNESS LEVEL OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO SPORT AND WHO DO NOT SPORT

The goal of this study was to review the hopelessness level of high school students who sport and who do not sport in İzmit district of Kocaeli Province. In accordance with this purpose, Sports Department of Hayrettin Gürsoy Fine Arts and Sports College and from Tevfik Seno Arda Anatolian High School was selected as sample of 11th and 12th classes. Information related to the research was provided for students in schools after receiving required research permissions. Entirely 159 students whose 132 were from Tevfik Seno Arda Anatolian High School and 27 were from Hayrettin Gürsoy Fine Arts and Sports College participated in research after informing. Beck hopelessness scale were applied to volunteer participators to determine their sociodemographic attributes. Since data displayed normal distribution when they were analyzed in SPSS 25.0 packaged software, an independent group t-test was used for binary cluster comparisons; variance analysis was utilized for three and more than three cluster comparisons. At the end of data analyses, it was not found a significant difference between hopelessness levels of students who sport and who do not sport. Moreover, hopelessness is significantly high in students who study in math departments; are 16 years old; study in 11th class; study in Anatolian High School and are subjected to violence while there are no significant results in terms of gender, educational background of parents, monthly income and the license year. Students who study in the sports department have low scores while hopelessness scores of students who study in the math department are high. In conclusion, for assessments, academic concerns and emotional characteristics are remarkable factors in the change of hopelessness level by force of age period features beyond playing sports at the high school level; there is a need for planning empirical studies related to the issue.
